Trail Ride - Fredericton, NB

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Fredericton Trail Ride (29 May) is now open. The application deadline is 1 May 2024.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:  
Soldier On will partner with Second Nature Outdoors to participants the opportunity to get back on a bike and learn a little about the bike maintenance and mechanics as well as explore the great Municipal trails system in the Fredericton area. 
The event is gear towards beginner level riders looking to ride the hard packed, flat, gravel trails at a recreational pace. This is an opportunity to reignite your passion for pedaling.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 12.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from within 1 hour of Fredericton who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
1:00-1:30 – Equipment Check and Maintenance review.
1:30-3:30 – Trail Ride through Fredericton Municipal trails.
3:30-Wrap up.

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 2 hours of light-moderate paced activity. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. 

Participants will be provided with a bike and helmet unless they choose to bring their own. All participants will be required to wear a helmet at all times while on their bike. Participants must be able to physically balance and propel the bike with their own strength.
Adaptive recumbent and hand cycles are available if needed. Selected participants must notify OPI upon initial selection to make arrangements for adaptive equipment. 

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.

Soldier On, PSP and CAF TG aim to provide a safe environment for all participants and staff. To ensure everyone’s safety, applicants understand that they should aim to adopt personal practices focused on communicable disease prevention such as health awareness, staying home when sick and regular hand cleaning to help prevent the spread.
