Intro to Pickleball - Aurora, ON

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Introduction to Pickleball event in Aurora Ontario on 27 and 28 May 2024 is now open. The application deadline is Friday 10 May 2024.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT: 
This local pickleball event will provide an opportunity for Soldier On participants to learn the fundamentals of pickleball and basic techniques through instruction and coaching. Assistance throughout the event will be provided courtesy of teaching professional Kim Porter.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 8.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the Aurora (Barrie Borden, Alliston, Newmarket, North York) area who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Monday May 27 and Tuesday May 28 2024 
1155hrs – Participants arrive at 63 Eric T Smith Way and check in with OPI;
1200-1500hrs – Learn the fundamentals of Pickleball and practice games; and
1500hrs – Day complete.  

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 3 hours of moderate to high paced activities for each day. Participants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. Applicants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol consumption allowed during the conduct of this event.

To ensure everyone’s safety, applicants understand that they should aim to adopt personal practices focused on communicable disease prevention such as health awareness, staying home when sick and regular hand cleaning to help prevent the spread.
