Sailing Camp - Toronto, Ontario

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Toronto Sailing Camp in Toronto Ontario 23-28 June 2024 is now open. The application deadline is 17 May 2024.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT: 
This activity will provide an opportunity for both serving and Veteran ill/injured CAF members to use the sport of sailing as part of their recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration. Regardless of the current skill level, the participants will receive expert instruction in sailing through classroom lectures and practical application on the water in order to gain the skills to participate in sailing in their local community.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 12.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from Southern Ontario, Eastern Ontario, and the NCR who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Sunday 23 June - Friday 28 June 2024
23 June – Travel Day, check into hotel, and meet and great. 
24-27 June – Sailing classes and practical learning at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club.
28 June – Travel Day AM departure.

TRANSPORTATION, MEALS & ACCOMMODATIONS:
Travel assistance will be provided and coordinated by the Soldier On Regional Coordinator in conjunction with Soldier On Operations. The most economical means of transportation to and from events will be prioritized and discussed with members via the event OPI or delegate.
Meals will be provided throughout the event, meal purchased while traveling will be eligible for reimbursement.
Accommodations will be arranged and paid for by Soldier On. 
*Accommodations are double Occupancy, 2 participants will be in one room.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to participate in 5 to 7 hours of moderate to high paced activity for four days in a row. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day.
 
Applicants must be comfortable on the water and able to maneuver inside the small space on the sailboat.  Participants will be required to wear the issued Personal Flotation Device at all times while on or near the water. Participants are advised that this event will be held mostly outdoors on the water, and weather conditions can change quickly, participants are expected to dress accordingly for the daily weather conditions.

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. Participants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol allowed in the accommodations and will be required to share accommodations.
