PEI Photography Workshop

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the PEI Photography Workshop in Charlottetown, 8-9 October is now open. The application deadline is 18 September 2025.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT: Discover the art of photography in a relaxed and supportive setting with this two-day workshop designed for Soldier On members. This fun and hands-on experience helps you build confidence behind the camera while exploring your creativity. With a mix of indoor and outdoor shooting, editing practice, and group discussions, participants will get to learn new techniques, share ideas, and showcase their work in a welcoming environment. Whether you’re interested in portraits, sports, photojournalism, or just want to sharpen your skills, this workshop covers everything from camera basics and lighting to creativity and editing—without pressure, just plenty of learning, practice, and inspiration. 

Participants will be required to provide their own camera and have a basic working knowledge of how to use it.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 8.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from Prince Edward Island who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate.

  • 0900hrs-1200hrs: Intros, Discussions, Camera Basics, Indoor Shooting 
  • 1200hrs-1300hrs LUNCH      
  • 1300hrs-1600hrs: Outdoor Shooting, Editing   ·        
9 October
  • 0900hrs-1200hrs: Outdoor Shooting        
  • 1200hrs-1300hrs: LUNCH        
  • 1300hrs-1600hrs: Discussion, Editing, Presentations
Mental & Physical Requirements

Applicants must be able to tolerate 6-7 hours of light paced activities for 2 days in a row. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. 

Participants should be comfortable engaging in light physical activity, such as moving around indoors and outdoors while carrying their camera gear. The workshop also involves periods of sitting for discussions and editing, as well as focusing on creative and technical tasks that require attention and concentration. A willingness to participate in group discussions and share work in a supportive setting is encouraged, but no advanced physical or mental requirements are needed beyond an interest in learning and engaging with others.

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. Applicants are advised that the activity and meals for this event will take place at the Military Family Resource Centre, and thus they may be exposed to a day-to-day military environment. Applicants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol allowed during the event.
