E-ON Pembroke Intro to Blacksmithing

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the E-ON Pembroke Introduction to Blacksmithing on 7 October 2025 is now open. The application deadline is 22 September 2025.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:  
Soldier On, Eastern Ontario Region will host a 1 day Introduction to Blacksmithing event at Forged in Canada, Pembroke ON on 7 October 2025.  The one day course offers participants an opportunity to gain an appreciation and understanding of basic blacksmithing skills through a hands on course, learning and developing the basic blacksmith techniques of drawing out, upsetting, splitting, spreading, punching and  bending. Participants will work on forging a rose

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 8.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the E-ON Region within a reasonable driving distance to Pembroke who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate and must have the authorization form submitted to the E-ON Soldier On Regional Coordinator by the application deadline or your application will not be considered.

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

7 October

• 0845 – Welcome
• 0900 – Basic Blacksmithing
• 1200 – Lunch 
• 1300 – Basic Blacksmithing
• 1500 – End of Session   

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that transportation, accommodation and meals will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 6 hours of moderate paced activities for 1 day. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. 

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
