SASKATOON HORSE CAMP
The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Saskatoon Horse Camp on 16 & 17 October, 2025 is now open.
The application deadline is 1600 hrs, 16 September 2025.
AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
Soldier On, in collaboration with East Side Equestrian, will conduct a two-day horsemanship camp in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The two-day camp is designed to provide the participant with the knowledge, techniques and skills required to understand basic riding, horse care and partnership, and stable requirements.
The number of Soldier On participants is limited to
four (4).
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from
Saskatoon/Dundurn who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.
Selected
Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate.

0730 hrs - Arrive, check in with Soldier On staff, welcome brief and introductions
0800-1200 hrs - Farm tour, Horse & Farm Safety Procedures, horse care, stable requirements, horse assignment
1200-1300 hrs - Lunch (Bring your Own)
1300-1530 hrs - Instruction
1530-1600 hrs - Clean-up and Departure

0730-0900 hrs - Barn Session (Feeding & Chores)
0900-1200 hrs - Instruction
1200-1300 hrs - Lunch (Bring your Own)
1300-1530 hrs - Instruction and Riding Skills

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location and are responsible for bringing their own lunch. Travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate
eight (8) hours of moderate paced activities for
two (2) days in a row. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day.
Participants must be physically able to conduct the following without issue or being in violation of their MELs:
manual labour requiring upper & lower body strength, lift and swing a 40 lb. saddle shoulder high, and be able to walk and maneuver in and around horses. Participants must weigh under 250 lbs. (as per regulations from the Service Delivery Provider for the horse’s safety).
Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
