SASKATOON LEATHER WORKING WORKSHOP

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Saskatoon Leather Working Workshop on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 is now open. The application deadline is 1600 hrs on September 16, 2025.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT: 
Are you ready to learn how to start leather working? Soldier On, in collaboration with Saskatoon Makerspace, located in Saskatoon, SK, will conduct a 3-hour leather working workshop, where each participant will learn the fundamental skills needed to understand leather working, such as saddle stitching, cutting, and edge finishing, and also be introduced to the different tolls used for leather working.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to  six (6).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the Saskatoon/Dundurn area who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Wednesday, October 15, 2025

0815 hrs: Arrive at Maker space, introductions and event briefing.
0830-1130 hrs: Conduct Leather Working Workshop
1130 hrs - Clean-up and depart.

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location. Travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Participants must be able to tolerate up to three (3) hours of light activities. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. To safely and enjoyably participate in this workshop, participants should have basic hand-eye coordination, the ability to follow instructions, and enough physical dexterity to handle tools and small pieces. 
  
Participants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. Participants also acknowledge that there is no alcohol consumption allowed during the conduct of this event.
