Hero Lodge Fishing Event - Great Slave Lake, NWT
The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Hero Lodge Fishing event from 11-16 Sep 25 is now open.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
Soldier On in collaboration with veteran operated Hero Lodge will host a one-of-a kind 5 day fishing experience. This Zodiac boat fishing experience is on the Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territories, which is the 9th largest lake in the world and the deepest in North America. You will return home with unforgettable catches and memories.
You will leave Yellowknife in a floatplane, heading for Narrow Island in the East Arm of Great Slave Lake. You will sleep under the midnight sun inside a prospector tent on one of the most beautiful rocky islands on the body of water. During your stay, you will discover fish-filled places with Nordic sceneries. Fishing will offer you the chance to catch huge fish, in clear and deep waters.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)
from Yellowknife, NT who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate.
DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
11 Sept 25: Travel Day/ depart float dock at 0800 hrs (45 min float plane flight to the lodge)
12-15 Sept 25: Fishing Activities.
16 Sept 25: Depart Hero Lodge at 10:00 hrs
TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel
to and from the float plane location. The following meals will be provided during the event: All meals during the event are provided by a cook from Hero Lodge.
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 8 hours of light/moderate paced activities for 5 days in a row. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day.
Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. Applicants will be required to share accommodations in a two-person prospector tent. The tents are very close to the lodge and amendments can be made in order to accommodate male only/female only accommodations. Applicants should be able to withstand any adverse weather conditions as activities will take place rain or shine.
Travel to and from the event location will be by floatplane. Applicants should be mentally prepared for flying in a smaller aircraft, which may involve close quarters and a more intimate flying experience compared to commercial flights. Additionally, they should be comfortable with the possibility of turbulence and the sensation of landing on water.
Applicants are reminded that personal flotation devices (PFDs) are to be worn at all times when on the water.
