Clay Hand Building
The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Clay Hand Building event 12 & 19 July 2025 from 1pm to 4pm is now open.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
Soldier On is
hosting a Clay hand building session at Clay Studio & Ceramics Education Centre Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador 155 Water Street. In collaboration with CCNL Clay studio - the class will include instruction, clay, glazing, firing guided by your instructors, Rod F. Beck. Members will get the opportunity to create pots with slabs and slump molds - this will be a fairly quick construction and leave ample time for personalization.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)
from within two hours drive from the event location who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate.
DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Sessions will be held on 12 and 19 July 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Attendance at both sessions is required.
TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 3 hours of light paced activities for 3 hours in a row. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day.
Participants should have the ability to handle and shape clay using slump molds and slabs, which requires basic manual dexterity and comfort working with tactile materials. The process involves pressing and forming clay over molds and joining slabs together, so some patience and attention to detail are helpful. No prior experience is necessary, but a willingness to explore and get hands-on with the clay is important.
Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
