THE RED FISHING DERBY - SELKIRK PARK, MB

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Soldier On the Red Fishing Derby, in Selkirk, MB, on Sunday, July 27, 2025, is now open. The application deadline is Friday, 11 July 25 at 1600 hrs.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT: 
Soldier On, in partnership with the Walleye Anglers Association of Manitoba (WAAM), will host the Soldier On the Red Fishing Derby on Sunday, 27 Jul 25, at Selkirk Park, MB. WAAM would like to show their support to the military community, and for the ninth year, have graciously volunteered to host this event for Winnipeg and area Soldier On members so that they can enjoy a morning of fishing followed by a BBQ lunch. In addition, Winnipeg Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) has collaborated with WAAM and Soldier On to include a Family Fishing Derby on the same date to allow Soldier On Family members and 17 Wing CAF members and family to come and enjoy the day on the water.

The number of Soldier On participants, Soldier On family members, and 17 Wing CAF members & family is limited to Fifty (50). Soldier On members will have priority.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any Soldier On serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from Winnipeg and the local geographical area, who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Sunday, July 27, 2025
0645 hrs: Arrive at B-90 South Parking (by the 4 sea containers)
0700 hrs: Depart 17 Wing for Selkirk Park
0800 hrs: Arrive at Selkirk Park
0815-0830 hrs: Welcome address and safety briefing
0830-0900 hrs: Pre-derby preparations (assign participants to boats)
0900-1230 hrs: Fishing Derby
1230-1400 hrs: BBQ
1400-1430 hrs: Mementos and Speeches
1500 hrs: Wrap-up, tear-down and departure1600 hrs: Arrive at 17 Wing Parking Lot

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that transportation will be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from 17 Wing. The following meal will be provided during the event: Barbeque lunch provided by WAAM.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate four (4) hours of moderate paced activities. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. Participants must wear a Personal Floatation Device (PFD) or Life Jacket when in or on the water/boat.

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. Applicants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol allowed.
