Cape Broyle NL Kayaking & Coastal Walk

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Cape Broyle NL Kayaking and coastal walk 10 July 2025 is now open. The application deadline is 2 July 2025.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT: 
Participants will take a walk on an out and back trail near Calvert NL at Broad Cove Beach and head out on the Stone Island pathway for a 2 - 4 km coastal walk followed by lunch and then on to explore some of the most breathtaking scenery Newfoundland has to offer via kayak in collaboration with the amazing guides at a Wilder experience. During your 3 hours on the water you will enjoy the beautiful harbour of Cape Broyle where there are plenty of wonders to experience. Wonders such as sea stacks, sea arches, sea birds, sea otters, eagle nests, waterfalls and whales all nestled among scenic views of high cliffs. This tour is perfect for people of all skill levels, including novice paddlers. This sea kayaking learning experience is 3.5 hours from arrival to departure 3-hours of paddling and 30 minutes of basic on shore sea kayaking instruction.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 10.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from within two hours drive from the event location who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

 July 10, 2025:
  • 11:30 AM: Start the coastal walk (1 hour)
  • 12:45 PM: Lunch (1 hour)
  • 1:45 PM: Kayaking (3.5 hours)
Timings are subject to change.

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location. The following meals will be provided during the event: Lunch.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 5 hours of light/moderate paced activities for 5 hours in a row. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. 

Participants must be able to navigate rocky terrain during the hike and independently get in and out of the kayak. The service provider's kayaks have an upper weight limit of 225 lbs per paddler.

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
