Carp Fishing on the Welland Canal
The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in Carp Fishing on the Welland Canal 15-16 August 2025 is now open.
The application deadline is 20 July 2025.
AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
Soldier On in collaboration with The Mindful Angler will host two a 2 day carp fishing experience. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the intricacies of carp fishing followed by an evening of carp fishing resuming for a morning of carp fishing the following morning on the Welland Canal in Welland On, on the evening of Friday 15 Aug and a morning of Saturday 16 Aug 2025.
The number of Soldier On participants is limited to
10.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)
from the local Welland area (St Catharines, Niagara) who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate.
DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Friday 15 Aug 2025
- 1730hrs arrive at Rotary Club of Welland Park
- 1740hrs meet and great/welcome address
- 1750hrs info on carp fishing and gear and an evening of carp fishing
- 2100hrs evening complete
Saturday 16 Aug 2025
- 0700hrs meet at Welland Canal and begin fishing
- 1200hrs lunch provided by Soldier On.
- 1300hrs pack up and head home.
TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On with the exception of lunch during the event on 16 Aug. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event. Participants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol consumption allowed during the conduct of this event.
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 5 hours of light paced activities and applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment, applicants also acknowledge that there is no alcohol consumption allowed during the conduct of this event. Applicants must wear a personal flotation device at all times when on the water.
