Kayak - 2026 - Fort Erie, On

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Fort Erie Kayak 6 Aug 2026 is now open. The application deadline is 17 July 2026.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT: 
Participants will learn basic kayaking skills to become comfortable on the water followed by a guided kayaking adventure along coast line on 6 Aug. Assistance throughout the event will be provided courtesy of Ontario See Kayak Center 

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 10.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in the Niagara Region. who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Thursday 6 Aug 2026

0900hrs: Arrive at Waverly Beach Park on;
0910hrs: Welcome brief and conduct dry land instruction and water safety then launch on Lake Erie for basic instruction.
1200hrs. Lunch
1300hrs Guided excursion; and
1500hrs: Event complete.

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On with the exception of lunch during the event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.  Participants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol consumption allowed during the conduct of this event.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Participants must be able to tolerate up to 5 hours of moderate paced activities. Due to the nature of this activity, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. Participants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. Participants will be required to wear a personal flotation device at all times while around and on the water. Participants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol consumption allowed during the conduct of this event.
