What is the Unconquered Award?
The Unconquered Award honours a serving or retired Canadian Armed Forces member who has confronted a life-altering illness or injury and demonstrated perseverance and determination through sport, recreation, and/or physical activity.
The award recognizes individuals who have used active living as part of their recovery and rehabilitation journey, while also serving as a role model and source of hope for others facing similar challenges.
This award does not focus on athletic achievement or competitive performance. Instead, it celebrates resilience, personal growth, community leadership, and the ability to inspire others.
Connection to Soldier On
For many members of the ill and injured community, sport and recreation can play an important role in recovery, rehabilitation, and renewed connection.
Through Soldier On, serving and retired CAF members are supported in accessing sport, recreational, and creative activities that contribute to their physical, mental, and social well-being.
The Unconquered Award reflects the spirit of Soldier On by recognizing members who continue to adapt, overcome, and inspire others through their participation, determination, and leadership.
Who can be nominated?
Nominees must be serving or retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces who:
- have confronted a life-altering illness or injury;
- have used sport, recreation, physical activity, or active living as part of their recovery or rehabilitation journey;
- demonstrate perseverance, determination, and resilience;
- serve as a role model or source of inspiration for others in the ill and injured community.
What should a nomination include?
Strong nominations should include examples of:
- the nominee’s recovery or rehabilitation journey;
- their participation in Soldier On activities or other sport, recreational, or active living opportunities;
- how they have overcome challenges through perseverance and determination;
- how they support, encourage, or inspire others;
- any leadership roles, coaching, officiating, certifications, awards, recognition, or community contributions connected to sport and recreation.

Selection and announcement
All nominations will be reviewed by a selection committee. The recipient will be announced at the 2026 CAF Sports Awards Ceremony.
