Lake Winnipeg Ice Fishing

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Lake Winnipeg Ice Fishing on 05 Feb 2026 is now open. The application deadline is Friday, 23 January 2026.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
Soldier On, in collaboration with Gaune Fishin, will host a one session ice fishing event on Lake Winnipeg. This activity will bring together both serving and retired ill/injured CAF members, allowing participants to connect through peer support and encourage a healthy and creative lifestyle. the objective of this event will be to provide participants the opportunity to learn how to ice fish, broadening their choices of recreational activities to stay active and healthy. No prior ice fishing experience required.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 4.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from Winnipeg and surrounding area who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Thursday, 05 February 2026:
0845 hrs: Arrive at Pruden Creek Access 
0900 - 0915 hrs: Introductions and transport to ice fishing shack 
0915-1200 hrs: Ice fishing instruction and fishing
1200-1300 hrs: Lake-shore lunch1300-1545 hrs: Ice fishing
1545-1600 hrs: Clean-up & departure

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location. Travel is not eligible for reimbursement for this event. A lakeshore lunch will be provided for participants.
