West CAN Adaptive Sports Camp - 2026 - Victoria, BC

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the West CAN Adaptive Sports Camp from October 12th - 16th, is now open. The application deadline is 15 September 2026 @ 1200 PST.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:  
Soldier On is excited to organize an adaptive sport camp in beautiful Victoria, BC. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about and experience a variety of adaptive sports, including wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, sledge hockey, and more. Activities will be led by trained coaches and experienced athletes who have participated in these sports for many years. No prior experience is required, and there are no physical limitation criteria for participation. Whether you are new to adaptive sports or simply looking to try something different, this event offers a fun, inclusive, and rewarding opportunity for everyone.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 18.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from WESTERN CANADA (BC, AB, Northern Canada, SK, MB, Northwestern ONT)  who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

12 October: Travel Day *Thanksgiving*
13 - 15 October: Adaptive Sport Camp  
16 October: Travel Day 

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Travel assistance will be provided and coordinated by the Soldier On Regional Coordinator in conjunction with Soldier On Operations. The most economical means of transportation to and from events will be prioritized and discussed with members via the event OPI or delegate.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 6 hours of easy-paced activities per day. 

Applicants must have sufficient hand dexterity and core strength to safely sit in a wheelchair and a sledge hockey sled while participating in the sport.

Applicants must not be in violation of any MELs.

Applicants must be comfortable working in small teams.

Applicants must be comfortable entering and accessing CFB Esquimalt.

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. 

Applicants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol allowed during this event.
