Lee Valley Pen Turning - 2026 - Kingston, ON

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the E-ON Lee Valley Pen Turning Event to be held in Kingston ON, on 21-22 September 2026 is now open. The application deadline is 4 September 26.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT: 
Have you ever wanted to learn to work a lathe and create your own pens?  Soldier On, Eastern Ontario Region in collaboration with Lee Valley will host a Pen Turning event at Kingston, ON.  This event will be an introduction to turning wood pens in the morning, followed by learning to turn acrylic pens in the afternoon.  All equipment for is provided. There will be a total of 10 participants in the event with 5 attending on 21 September and another 5 attending on 22 September. Selected participants will be informed of which day they will attend so please block your calendar.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 10.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the E-ON region within a driving distance of 2 hours to Kingston who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

21 & 22 Sep (Each day)

•  0800-1200 Pen Turning Wood
• 1200-1300 Lunch
• 1300-1700 Pen Turning Acrylic

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that transportation and accommodations will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location. 

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 9 hours of moderate activities.  Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day.  Applicants will be required to stand for long periods while working a lathe. Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
