Canoe the Barron Canyon - 2026 - Algonquin Park, ON

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the E-ON Canoe the Barron Canyon to be held in Algonquin Park on 29-30 September 2026 is now open. The application deadline is 7 September 26.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:  
The Soldier On, Eastern Ontario Region will host a 2-day canoe event at Algonquin Park on 29-30 September 2026.  Day one will be held a Sec Lake and will include  information on canoes and participants will receive paddling instruction, basic equipment requirements, packing, portaging, safety and lots of practice. Day two will see the group paddle a round trip along the beautiful and scenic Barron Canyon from Squirrel Rapids during the changing of fall colours. The group will stage each morning in Petawawa for the trip to Algonquin Park

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 8.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the E-ON region within a reasonable driving distance to Petawawa who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled gas a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

29 & 30 Sep (Each day)

• 0730 - Meet in Petawawa
• 0745 - Depart for Algonquin Park
• 0830 - Begin Canoe Training
• 1600 - Canoe Training Ends
• 1800 - NLT Arrive in Petawawa

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that transportation and accommodations will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location. A bag lunch will be provided daily.

Mental & Physical Requirements
Applicants must be able to tolerate 11 hours of moderate activities for two consecutive days.  Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
