Creative Art Event - 2026 - Sudbury, ON
The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the E-ON Sudbury Creative Art Event on 3 June 2026 is now open.
The application deadline is 15 May 2026.
AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
Hosted by the Art Gallery of Sudbury, Soldier On members will participate in a day of creative activity on 3 June 2026. The first event, held in the morning at the Art Gallery Studio, Sudbury ON will include a Printmaking Workshop where participants will learn the basics of Printmaking using the basic tools and printing presses of the craft. The afternoon will see participants visit the very spot the Group of Seven member A.Y. Jackson was inspired for his painting at Onaping High Falls. During the event participants will learn about the Group of Seven and their connection to Onaping Falls and the La Cloche area. The afternoon session will include the teaching of some basic watercolour painting techniques at the trail head gazebo, a short 20-minute hike along the Onaping River to the falls, and then the opportunity to paint your own masterpiece en plein air, guided by an Art Gallery of Sudbury artist/educator. (no painting experience required)

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)
from the Eastern On surrounding areas of Sudbury and North Bay who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate.

09:15 Meet at Art Studio
09:30 Printmaking Introduction
11:30 Lunch
12:00 Depart for Onaping Falls
12:30 Arrive at Onaping Falls
12:40 Introductions and talk / discussion about Group of Seven and links to Onaping Falls and La Cloche area.
13:30 Observation hike (using viewfinders to capture landscapes and isolate smaller foliage etc.) to bridge along the falls.
14:20 Hike to painting spot along the river. All materials are supplied to create en plein air watercolour painting of falls or other using the viewfinders technique.
15:30 Hike back to covered picnic area
16:00 Return to Art Galley
TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate
7 hours of moderate paced activities. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day.
Members must be able to walk outdoors walking on uneven ground for 20 minutes to get to the painting site and return.
Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
