The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Fish & Unwind: Dream Casters Society on June 18th 2026, is now open.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
Soldier On is excited to partner with the Dream Casters Society for a full-day fishing experience on the Fraser River. This event will be a hands-on opportunity to learn the fundamentals of fishing in a supportive outdoor setting. Our instructor, Frank Grosspietsch from the Dream Caster Society, will walk you through essential skills such as setting up fishing gear, casting techniques, choosing bait, and understanding basic river fishing methods. Whether you’re completely new to fishing or looking to sharpen your skills, the day is structured to be welcoming to all experience level. Participants will also have plenty of time to enjoy the natural surroundings, connect with others, and experience a relaxing day on the river.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)
from the greater-Vancouver area, or within a 90-minute drive of the Vancouver proper, who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate.

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate a 8 hour day of light-paced activities.
Applicants must have upper body and core strength to safely sit in a boat and cast a fishing line for extended periods throughout the day.
Applicants must not be in violation of any MELs.
Applicants must be comfortable working in small teams.
Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
Applicants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol allowed during this event.
