Sailing Initiation Course - Salaberry de Valleyfield

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Sailing Initiation Course in Salaberry-de-Field on June 10th 2025 is now open. The application deadline is Thursday May 22nd at 12:00.

AIM AND SCOPE OF THE EVENT: 
Soldier On is organizing a Sailing Initiation Course in collaboration with Académie Voile Aventure www.academievoileaventure.com on Tuesday June 10th 2025. Participants will join a friendly and expert instructor to learn and develop Sailing techniques. In an environment that emphasizes teamwork, participants will be able to develop practical and strategic skills in reference to maritime navigation. Regardless of the current skill level, up to 8 participants (2 boats / crew of 4) will have the opportunity to use the sport of sailing as part of their recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 8 (eight).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the Larger Montréal Region (within 90 min of car travel) who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate.

Tuesday June 10th - 07h30 Participants arrival / 08h00 Sailing Course / 12h00 End of the activity

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location.

licants must be able to tolerate 4 hours of light to moderate outdoor paced activities. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. Participants must be comfortable in and around water, and able to follow verbal instructions and safety protocols in a dynamic, outdoor environment. Basic mobility, balance, and coordination are required to move safely on and around the boat, including stepping over edges, crouching, and shifting weight. Participants should be prepared for extended periods of sitting or standing in varying weather conditions, including exposure to sun, wind, and rain. Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. Please note that activity may be cancelled and rescheduled due to thunderstorm but will continue even under rain. 

Please note: This event is not fully accessible. Due to the nature of the environment, the use of mobility devices near or on the boats may not be possible.
