ART COLLECTIVE: Vancouver

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the ART COLLECTIVE: Vancouver 6-8th June 2025, is now open. The application deadline is 23 May 2025 @ 1200 PST.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:  
Soldier On is excited to offer an Art Collective opportunity in Vancouver! Over the course of three days, Soldier On participants will visit three different locations, Terminal City Glass, Luminous Elephant and MakerLabs. Each day, selected participants will be introduced to a new art medium. 

Terminal City Glass: Glassblowing
In this 4-hour a private group setting, Soldier On participants will have the opportunity to be introduced to different glassblowing techniques.

Luminous Elephant: Silicon Print Making
In this 2-hour private session, Soldier On participants will learn different tools and carving techniques. The Luminous Elephant will provide each participant with the opportunity to create their own personalized silicon print and materials to take home printed cards at the end of class. 

MakerLabs: sushi Ceramics 
Get ready to get a bit messy! In this 3-hour session, all participants will hand craft a sushi tray, a soy sauce dish and a chopsticks holder from clay. You will have ultimate control with customizing the design and painting the pieces. These projects will then be fired and be ready for pick up about a month afterwards
*please note that this course will take place on the second floor of their warehouse and is only accessible by stairs. 

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 6

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the Greater Vancouver area (within 90min driving radius of Vancouver proper), who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

*NOTE FOR SERVING MEMBERS: The selection of serving members for activities outside their local regions for which members will be on TD will align with CAF direction on financial expenditures.

6 June: Terminal City Glass

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event

Participants are encouraged to bring water and a snack to consume during the sessions. 

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 2-4 hours of light-to-moderate paced activities for 3 days in a row. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. 

Participants must not be in violation of any MEL's 

Participants will be required to have strength and dexterity to manipulate small hand tools as well as loads up of up to 15 pounds. 

Participants must be able to tolerate periods of standing with limited opportunity to sit. 

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. 

Applicants are advised that MakerLabs and Terminal City glass are large open concept warehouses where there will be ambient noise and other fabricators working while we are in session.
