E-ON Petawawa Moccasin Workshop
The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the E-ON Petawawa Moccasin Workshop on 27 November 2025 is now open.
The application deadline is 7 November 2025.
AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
Soldier On, Eastern Ontario Region will host a Moccasin Workshop event at the Southside Community Center, Petawawa ON on 27 November 2025. The one day activity offers participants an opportunity to gain an appreciation and understanding of moccasin building skills through a hands on workshop instructed by Collen Nolan. An Anishinaabe, originally from Garden River she has spent most of her adult life working and living in Akwesasne, and recently moved to Ottawa. She has been facilitating both leather moccasin and mitt workshops now for over five years. She incorporates teachings and storytelling into the workshop.
About the workshop:
All kits come precut to size and include:
- Precut leather/lining;
- Needle and sinew;
- Choice for fur; and
- Lots of energy and fun!
The number of Soldier On participants is limited to
14.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)
from the E-ON Regions of Petawawa and North Bay who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.
Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate and must have the authorization form submitted to the E-ON Soldier On Regional Coordinator by the application deadline or your application will not be considered.
DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
27 November
- 1000 – Introductions, Class begins
- 1200 – Lunch Break
- 1500 – Event ends.
TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that
transportation, accommodation and meals will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location.
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate
6 hours of moderate paced activities for
1 day. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day.
Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
Applicants are advised that this event is located at a Canadian Armed Forces bases/facilities, and thus they may be exposed to a day-to-day military environment.
