Winnipeg Woodworking
The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Winnipeg Woodworking event to be conducted on November 24-26, 2025, is now open.
The application deadline is Sunday, November 16, 2025.
AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
Soldier On, in collaboration with 17 Wing Wood Hobby Club, will host a 3-day Introduction to Woodworking event on November 24, 25 and 26, 2025, from 1800-2100 hrs in Winnipeg, MB. Participants will be led by experienced club woodworkers and will spend 3 hours each day learning fundamental safety practices, gaining skills in working with various woodworking hand and power tools, and will complete a small hands-on project such as a cutting board.
The number of Soldier On participants is limited to
four (4).
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)
from the
Winnipeg geographical area, who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.
Selected
Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate.
DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Nov 24-26, 2025 (each workshop session)
1800-1815 hrs: Participants arrive, prepare equipment and welcome address
1815-2100 hrs: Woodworking Instruction
2100 hrs: Clean-up and depart
TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location. Travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate
three (3) hours of
light to moderate paced activities for three consecutive evenings. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the workshop.
Ear plugs and safety glasses are available, but it is recommended that you bring your own if you have them. No loose or baggy clothes may be worn. Long hair must be tied back.
Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
