Bee Essentials Course - 2026 - Fall River, NS

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Bee Essentials course, Saturday 7 March 2026 is now open. The application deadline is 20 February 2026.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:  
Soldier On will be partnering with Country Fields to present this entry-level beekeeping course. Designed specifically for beginners with no prior beekeeping experience, this workshop introduces participants to the fundamental concepts needed to get started. This opportunity is intended to spark further interest in those who are curious about beekeeping and who may have the means and desire to continue with the activity after the event.

Students will learn about honey bee anatomy, seasonal hive care, essential equipment, managing bees during swarm season, and how to recognize common pests and diseases. No advanced techniques will be covered, as this course focuses solely on the core knowledge required for new beekeepers. 

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 10.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from Nova Scotia within 1 hour from the event location who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
The 8-hour course will take place at Country Fields Beekeeping Supplies, 11 Falls Run, Fall River, Nova Scotia, on Saturday, March 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 8 hours of light/moderate paced activities for 1 days. Due to the activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. 

Applicants must be able to tolerate sitting and participating in a classroom/conference-style environment for the majority of an 8-hour session. The course includes lectures, Q&A, discussions, and interactive activities. Applicants must be able to participate with limited rest and engage in a social environment with other members and civilians.
