Shilo Sledge Hockey Day - Shilo, MB

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Shilo Sledge Hockey Day is now open. The application deadline is 28 Oct 2026 at 2345 hrs central time.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:

Soldier On, in collaboration with Manitoba Possible and PSP Shilo will put on a 1-day sledge hockey experience on 19 Nov 2026 from 0900-1600 hrs. This event will take place at Gunner Arena at CFB Shilo. This event is open to all skill levels, no previous experience required. Manitoba Possible has also coordinated a sledge hockey event with PSP Shilo at the same place, date, and time; so that serving CAF members from CFB Shilo may also participate.

This activity will bring together both Soldier On serving and retired ill/injured members, allowing participants to connect through peer support and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. 

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 10.

Participants will need to supply their own hockey helmets and neck guards. Hockey helmets MUST have a full cage or full visor. Neck guards are MANDATORY. Jerseys will be supplied by Soldier On.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the Brandon / Shilo and the Winnipeg Areas (and their respective surrounding 100 km) who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Thursday 19 Nov 2026:
-0900 hrs: Arrive at Gunner Arena;
-0930 - 1130 hrs: Skills and drills session;
-1200-1300 hrs: Lunch;
-1330-1530 hrs: Scrimmage; &
-1530-1600 hrs: Clean up and departure.

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:

Transportation:
Travel assistance will be provided for this event as follows:

1) Brandon / Shilo Area Participants: Travel assistance is not provided for participants residing in the Brandon / Shilo local area. Reporting times and locations will be communicated closer to the event.

2) Winnipeg & Area Participants: Selected members from the Winnipeg Area will travel to and from the event on 19 Nov 2026 via PMV and will be reimbursed for their milage. Please note, retired members will be reimbursed with the low kilometric rate.

Meals:
Meals for this event will be provided as follows:

1) All Participants: Lunch.

2) Winnipeg and Area Participants: Selected members from the Winnipeg Area will will be compensated for / receive Breakfast and Dinner.
