PRAIRIE ADAPTIVE SPORTS CAMP - 2026 - Winnipeg, MB

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Prairie Adaptive Sports Camp 10-14 May 2026 is now open. The application deadline is 12 April 2026.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
Soldier On, in partnership with PSP Winnipeg, 17 Wing Archery Club, Manitoba Wheelchair Sports Association (MWSA), and Manitoba Possible, will host the Prairie Adaptive Sports Camp in Winnipeg from 10-14 May 2026, with May 10th & 14th being travel days for out-of-town participants. Up to twelve (12) Soldier On participants, and ten (10) 17 Wing CAF members, will spend three days being introduced to several adaptive sports to include wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, sledge hockey, and archery. Participants will also be introduced to disc golf pending the condition of the disc golf course. The aim and scope of the camp is to introduce basic techniques and skills for each adaptive sport and most of all… to have fun!

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 12.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the PRAIRIES REGION who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 


DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Sunday, 10 May 2026:
Travel day for out of town participants.

Monday, 11 May 2026:
0800-1230 hrs: Sledge Hockey at Hockey for All Centrr;
1300-1400 hrs: Team lunch at Hockey for All Centre; &
1430-1600 hrs: Disc Golf at B90 (pending condition of course).

Tuesday, 12 May 2026:
1300-1600 hrs: Archery (Recurve Bow);
1630-1730 hrs: Team Dinner; &
1800-2100 hrs: Wheelchair Basketball.

Wednesday, 13 may 2026:
1300-1600 hrs: Archery (Compound Bow);
1630-1730 hrs: Team Dinner; &
1800-2100 hrs: Wheelchair Rugby.

Thursday, 14 May 2026:
Travel day for out of town participants.


TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:

TRANSPORTATION:
Travel assistance will be provided for this event as follows:

Manitoba Participants:

1) Brandon / Shilo Area Participants: Participants from the Brandon / Shilo area will travel via POMV and must arrive at the Dakota Inn, 17 Wing Winnipeg, no later than 1700 hrs. they will then travel by DND vehicle to and from the event locations.

2) Winnipeg & Area Participants: Travel assistance in not provided for participants residing within the Winnipeg local area. Reporting times and locations will be communicated closer to the event.

Northwestern Ontario Participants: All participants from NW Ontario will travel to and from Winnipeg by air. Upon arrival, they will be picked up at the Winnipeg airport by the event OPI and transported via DND vehicle to and from the event locations.

Saskatchewan Participants:

1) Moose Jaw / Regina Area Participants: Participants from the Moose Jaw / Regina area will travel via POMV and must arrive at the Dakota Inn, 17 Wing Winnipeg, no later than 1700 hrs. They will then travel by DND vehicle to and from the event locations. 

2) Saskatoon Area Participants Participants from the Saskatoon Area will travel to and from Winnipeg by air. They will be picked up at the Winnipeg airport by the event OPI and transported via DND vehicle to and from the event locations. 


MEALS & ACCOMMODATIONS:

Meals and on-base accommodations (shared rooms) will be provided to all selected Soldier On members traveling to Winnipeg for this event. Selected Soldier On members from Winnipeg and the surrounding area will not be provided accommodations. They will receive the following meals only:
  • Lunch: 11 May 2026
  • Dinner: 12 & 13 May 2026
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 6 hours of moderate-high paced activities for 3 days. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. 

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. Applicants are advised that the activity and meals for this event is/may be located at Canadian Armed Forces bases/facilities, and thus they may be exposed to a day-to-day military environment. Applicants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol allowed in the accommodations, and will be required to share accommodations.
