Learn to Ride a Mountain Bike in Limoges, ON

Soldier On will be partnering with Ride Ottawa and the Mana Center Yoga to host a beginner mountain bike clinic and group ride on the 17th of June 2022 in Limoges, ON from 9:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This activity will bring together both serving and retired ill/injured CAF members, allowing participants to connect through peer support and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.

Up to six ill/injured serving or retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces will receive a group lesson from certified PMBI instructors and proceed to have fun and test their skills with a group ride. This program will assist in the continuation of a healthy and active lifestyle.

This event will ensure progression of skills to give participants a solid foundation for riding and enjoying trails. Participants will learn bike set-up, and guide you through essential skills including, body position on the bike, how to brake, using the right gears, scanning the trail, and learning to ride down steeper sections of trail and up the other side. We will ride together as a group and there will be plenty of riding on the trails and lots of time for questions.

The event will include 1.5 hours of instruction lead by Ride Ottawa instructors followed by a gentle group ride.

The event will take place at Larose Forest in Limoges, ON. Participants will be provided mountain bikes and equipment courtesy of the Mana Centre.

All skills levels and abilities are welcome as the program will run at a pace comfortable for beginners but offer adaptations and/or challenges for those who would like them.

Assistance throughout the event will be provided courtesy of Ride Ottawa and the Mana Centre.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to six

Minimum eligibility criteria
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the National Capital Region (NCR) who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service. Due to the fact that the event is in the NCR geographical area, travel assistance will not be provided.

Serving Members
Medical clearance may be required by your chain of command.

Mental & Physical Requirements
  • Participants must be able to tolerate 2.5 hours of moderate to high paced activity.
  • Participants must be able to wear protective equipment such as helmets and be able to mount and be seated on an upright bicycle and pedal efficiently.
  • Participants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
Nomination Forms must be received by Soldier On no later than the 9th of June, 2022.
