Soldier On Members Hike with Girl Gone Good

On November 18, Soldier On members in the National Capital Region enjoyed a late-morning hike at the Morris Island Conservation Area. After a couple of delays due to rainy weather and pandemic restrictions, participants were finally able to explore the trails and receive insight from the wonderful Vickie of Girl Gone Good.

"I was very nervous about taking part, but it was very relaxing, very soothing, and very refreshing," says Christine Drab, who participated in her first event with Soldier On. She was able to bring her service dog along, who enjoyed seeing the occasional animal scurry by.

"It was the first time since I've been out in two years with other military people, and it was not as scary as I thought it was going to be." Drab pointed out that people in her situation often get stuck in a vacuum and don't know where to turn for positive experiences, so she thanked Soldier On for its work.

"It was great; I am new to the area, so it was a way for me to find new activities that I was able to do and meet people that have similar interests so that I am building my new social network," adds Major Pam Cooper.

"There's a misconception that you have to be really injured," she says regarding participating in Soldier On events. "It's for all of us, regardless of what injuries we have."

Soldier On is proud to bring events such as these to the ill and injured Armed Forces community. Thanks to Vickie of Girl Gone Good for leading this hike!
