"Step Forward" Fitness Series - 2026 - Halifax, NS
The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the ''Step Forward'' Fitness Series 9, 16, 23, 30 Jan & 6, 13 Feb 2026 (ALL SESSIONS MUST BE ATTENDED) is now open.
The application deadline is 10 December 2025.
AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
This fitness session is designed to meet each participant where they are in their fitness journey and build from there, in a private, supportive, and safe group setting. Participants will be guided by the amazing instructors at RHQ Studio, who will adapt exercises to individual needs and encourage progress at a comfortable pace.
The class focuses on strength and mindful movement, while fostering confidence, balance, and connection with oneself and others. Participants are encouraged to explore their limits safely, support one another, and enjoy an inclusive space where everyone can progress at their own pace.
The number of Soldier On participants is limited to
20.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)
from the Halifax and surrounding areas who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate.
DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Fitness Class – RHQ Studio - Fridays: 9, 16, 23, 30 January & 6, 13 February 2026
Time: 14:00 hrs (2:00 p.m.) - Each
60-minute session will focus on strength and mindful movement, with adaptations to meet each participant where they are in their fitness journey. Classes are led by experienced instructors in a supportive, private group setting, encouraging confidence, progress, and connection.
TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate
1 hour of moderate-paced activity once per week over a 6-week period. Activities will include standing, balancing, bodyweight, weighted movements, and transitions between positions at a controlled pace. Participants should be able to move safely from the floor to standing and vice versa with minimal assistance and are encouraged to bring any personal supports or adaptive tools they require for comfort.
Mentally, participants should be open to learning, receptive to instruction, and comfortable in a small group setting. Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians and should therefore be able to function in a social environment. The class environment will encourages mindfulness, focus, and self-awareness through guided movement and instruction. Participants should demonstrate a willingness to engage, explore their limits safely, and support others in a respectful, inclusive atmosphere.
