The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the FRESH START YOGA Series - 6, 13, 20, 27 Jan & 3, 10 Feb 2026 (ALL SESSIONS MUST BE ATTENDED) is now open.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
Join Soldier On for a series of yoga sessions in collaboration the RIO Studio in Halifax led by instructor Jess —a warm and welcoming space designed to help participants reconnect with their bodies and focus on mindful movement.
These classes encourage participants to move with intention, build strength, and develop confidence at their own pace. Jess’s approach emphasizes breath awareness, steady progress, and making movement accessible to all. Each session will include time for guided practice as well as opportunities to rest, reset, and reflect. Props and modifications will be available to support different comfort levels, and participants are encouraged to explore what feels right for their body in each moment.
This program aims to help members discover how yoga can support both physical and mental well-being—fostering resilience, balance, and a renewed sense of connection.
The number of Soldier On participants is limited to
20.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)
from the Halifax and surrounding areas who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Yoga with Jessica – RIO Studio Tuesdays: January 6, 13, 20, 27 & February 3, 10, 2026
Time: 1400 hrs (2:00 p.m.) Each 60-minute session will focus on breath work, mobility, and mindful movement, encouraging participants to build confidence, strength, and connection through yoga practice.
TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 1 hour of moderate-paced activity once per week over a 6-week period. Due to the structured nature of each session, participants should have a limited need for rest during the activity.Activities will include standing, balancing, stretching, and moving between seated and standing postures at a controlled pace. Participants should be able to get up and down from the floor with minimal assistance and bring any personal supports or adaptive tools they require for comfort.
Mentally, participants should be
open to learning, receptive to instruction, and comfortable participating in a small group setting. Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. The class environment encourages mindfulness, focus, and self-awareness through guided movement and breathing. A willingness to engage, explore one’s limits safely, and support others in a respectful, inclusive atmosphere is essential.
