Stained Glass Workshop - Trenton, ON

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Trenton Stained Glass Workshop on 24 or 25 October is now open. The application deadline is 12 October.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
Soldier On will host a creative Introduction to Stained-Glass workshop. Two independent sessions will be held on 24 and 25 October 2023. The event will be held over 2 days with six different members participating each day.  Participants will learn the basics of stained glass cutting, grinding, foiling and soldering to produce a panel approximately 10” by 12” suitable for hanging. The pattern is a single poppy.  All materials and instruction is provided by Cracked Glass Design, Trenton ON.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 12 (six per day).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the Eastern ON Trenton / Kingston Regions who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS: 24 & 25 October (Members will be assigned a day to attend, six new per day)

0900 – Welcome
0910 – Stained Glass Work
1200 - Lunch
1300 – Stained Glass-Work
1600 – Event ends

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 8 consecutive hours of light activities. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. 

Participants must be capable of wearing safety glasses and enclosed footwear is necessary. There will be a requirement for cutting glass, using sharp tools and soldering irons. Fumes and dust will be present in the event of respiratory problems. The floor surface may have sharp pieces of glass from cutting therefore the environment will not be safe for service animal foot pads.

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
