Meals made Simple-Cooking Program - Fredericton, NB

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Meals Made Simple Cooking Program, 3-24 November is now open. The application deadline is 13 October.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT: 
Soldier On will be partnering with Chef Yves Dechaine from the Greener Village Kitchen to offer 4 weekly sessions of cooking simple and budget friendly meals.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 12.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) with 2 hour of the Fredericton Area who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Every Friday for 4 weeks (November 3rd, 2023 to November 24th) 
Time:1000hrs-1200hrs.

Week 1:
·         Introduction to Workshop and Course Breakdown
·         Smart Shopping Tips and Money Saving Ideas
·         Hands-On Cooking: Biscuits and Soup

Week 2:
·         Balanced Nutrition and Money Saving Tips
·         Hands-On Cooking: Sheet Pan Meals

Week 3:
·         Introduction to Meals Made Simple App and How to Navigate
·         Hands-On Cooking: Breakfast Ideas

Week 4:
·         Creating and Curating Meal Plans
·         Hands-On Cooking: Smart Snacks

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 2 hours of light paced activity. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. 

Participants much be comfortable being in and around sharp kitchen tools and can withstand the heat of multiple ovens and stoves operating at one time.

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
