Cutting Board Creation - Burlington, ON
Soldier On will be host a two-day Cutting Board Creation class to build and finish a cutting board in Burlington, ON on July 18-19 2023.
This activity will bring together both serving and retired ill/injured CAF members, allowing participants to connect through peer support and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.
Participants will learn the basics of woodworking and will be guided through the assembly of a wood cutting board.
Ill/injured members will be guided through woodworking methods to construct a wood cutting board over two days. Participants will be lead through a class to create and finish their own unique cutting board.
All equipment and supplies will be provided to the participants for this event.

0955hrs – Arrive at Shop Time Studio 3317 Mainway, Burlington, ON L7M 1A6
1000hrs – Welcome/Safety brief and commence cutting board construction; and
1500hrs – depart for the day.
Wednesday 19 July 2023
0955hrs – Arrive at Shop Time Studio;
1000hrs - continue cutting board construction; and
1500hrs – Event complete.
The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 8.
Minimum Eligibility Criteria:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the
Burlington area (Hamilton, Mississauga, Guelph, Kitchener) who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.
Serving Members:
Medical clearance may be required by your chain of command.
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 5 hours of moderate paced activities for two days in a row. Due to the nature of this activity, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. Participants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
Transport and Meals:
Applicants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event. Participants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol consumption allowed during the conduct of this event.

Soldier On events are planned in accordance with municipal, provincial, territorial and federal public health measures (PHM) and regulations as well as the Canadian Armed Forces health policy and guidelines. The health and safety of Soldier On participants and staff, PSP staff, and CAF TG personnel are paramount. While specific safety precautions for each event will depend on the scope, scale and location of the event, the utmost care will be undertaken to ensure the risk associated with the spread of COVID-19 is very low.
Confirmation Details
The event OPI will confirm in writing with the participants selected for this activity.
An activity delivery questionnaire will be sent to selected participants to complete and return. This will assist the event OPI and the sport delivery partner with the planning of logistics and the activity.
A joining instruction will be issued prior to event; ensuring applicants are authorized to participate IAW applicable policies & eligibility criteria.
Conclusion
Cutting Board Creation is an event which will encourage ill/injured serving CAF personnel and veterans to develop new skills, engage with others while personally challenging themselves.
