Woodworking Course – Edmonton, AB

Soldier On is organizing a Woodworking Course in collaboration with the 3 CDSB Edmonton Wood and Hobby shop from Oct 12th to Nov 2nd, 2022.

This activity will bring together both serving and retired ill/injured CAF members, allowing participants to connect through peer support and encourage a healthy and creative lifestyle. These woodworking lessons will contribute as a tool to wellness and recovery for the participants.

Participants will engage in a series of 4 lessons of 2 hours each. A woodworking instructor will assist the participant with woodworking and tool technics throughout the lessons. Participants must be able to attend all 4 lessons over 4 weeks which has for objective the fabrication of a live edge Elm Charcuterie board with white resin. 

Important: Materials and tools will be provided by the Wood and Hobby shop. Participants are asked to bring their own water bottle, protective glasses and pencil.
 
Assistance throughout the event will be provided courtesy of the Wood and Hobby shop.  These individuals are highly skilled wood working volunteers and veterans. 

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to six (6).
 
Minimum eligibility criteria:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the Edmonton geographical areas who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.
 
Serving Members:
Medical clearance may be required by your chain of command but is not required by Soldier On.
 
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Participants must be able to tolerate 2 hours of low rate physical activity per session. There may be loud noises from the tools used to create the charcuterie board. Participants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. Participants are advised that the activity for this event is located at a Canadian Armed Forces bases/facility, and thus they may be exposed to a day-to-day military environment.
 
Participants should be able to perform light lower and upper body movement without being in violation of any MELs.

Soldier On events are planned in accordance with municipal, provincial, territorial and federal public health measures (PHM) and regulations as well as the Canadian Armed Forces health policy and guidelines. The health and safety of Soldier On participants and staff, PSP staff, and CAF TG personnel are paramount.

Confirmation Details: 
The event OPI will confirm in writing with the participants selected for this activity.
 
A joining instruction will be issued prior to event; ensuring applicants are authorized to participate IAW applicable policies & eligibility criteria.

Conclusion: 
Soldier On Edmonton Wood Working is an event which will encourage ill/injured serving CAF personnel and veterans to develop new skills, engage with others while personally challenging themselves.
